One significant event that I have attended last month was the First Angat Pilipinas Financial Literacy Awards Night. The event was held last April 16 at the SMX Aura Convention Center. It was launched by Angat Pilipinas Coalition for Financial Literacy, a non-profit financial literacy organization who aims to promote financial education to the Filipinos all over the world. The event’s goal was to unite the financial advocates in our country and to recognize their efforts in spreading financial literacy.

There were five categories that were awarded. The Finance Blogger of the Year was given to Aya Laraya, while the Influential Authors of the Year were awarded to Bo Sanchez and Dean Pax Lapid. Arman Vengco Felipe was the OFW Advocate of the Year. The Advocacy Group of the Year was Traders Apprentice Pilipinas, and the Institution of the Year was Sun Life Financial. I’m glad to be part of this first and only personal finance awarding event in the Philippines. Although, more and more Filipinos are becoming finance advocates, the harvest is still very much plenty. There are still more Filipinos who do not know how to manage their money properly. We have to work harder to reach out to more of our kababayans and guide them towards achieving financial independence.
